Floor Plan App gives you three ways to produce the same thing — an accurate, editable floor plan. They differ in speed, in hardware requirements, and in whether the room needs to exist at all. Here's how to choose.
LiDAR scanning: fastest, most automatic
Best for: capturing real spaces quickly — surveys, listings, renovations.
Needs: iPhone 12 Pro or later Pro model, or iPad Pro (2020+).
You walk the room; the laser scanner does everything else. Walls, doors, windows, and furniture are detected automatically, and accuracy lands within a few centimeters. A room takes about a minute. The only real weaknesses are mirrors and large glass surfaces, which any LiDAR sensor struggles with — check those walls in the editor afterward.
AR measuring: nearly universal
Best for: real spaces when you don't have a Pro-model device.
Needs: any ARKit-capable iPhone or iPad — which is almost all of them.
You tap each corner of the room in augmented reality and the app builds the outline at true scale. It's a couple of minutes per room and a bit more hands-on than scanning: you're the one identifying the corners, and doors and windows are marked rather than auto-detected. Accuracy is very good when you move smoothly and mark corners at floor level.
Manual drawing: total control, no room needed
Best for: spaces that don't exist yet, quick concept layouts, redrawing a plan from a paper original.
Needs: any iPhone or iPad. No camera involved.
The editor gives you wall, door, window, and furniture tools on a snapping grid, with room areas computed as you draw. It's the slowest route for capturing a real room but the only route for imagining one — and it doubles as the finishing tool for the other two methods.
